I am happy to present to you the Financial Summary for 2006. I would like to thank parishioners for their continuing generosity. However, if this were a school report, it would probably read: 'Well done, but could do better'! As you will see, the overall income is substantially down on the previous year, but so, fortunately, is expenditure. So, by good housekeeping, we have managed to break even on the year. Obviously, the drop in income is a cause for concern but this can be addressed in a simple and painless way through the Gift Aid scheme - see the note from Kevin Jamieson.
This year, on the advice of the Diocese, we have transferred to a new accounting package called Cashcall. For this reason it has not been possible to do direct comparisons, category by category, with last year. However, I do hope that you will judge the summary of income and expenditure for the year to be an adequate presentation of our stewardship!
We still remain a relatively wealthy and generous parish but clearly, there is no room for complacency, as we face the future with its various challenges, both at home and with our outreach projects in the Third World.
I would like to offer my personal thanks to parishioners for their ongoing generosity to the priests through Christmas and Easter offerings. On behalf of the whole Parish, I would also like to thank the small but very committed group of people who form the Parish Finance Committee.
13th May 2007. Father Kieron O 'Brien - Parish Priest
Please note - This report will be presented to the Open Parish Meeting May 22nd at 7.30 p.m.
Mr. Kevin Jamieson (Chairman), Fr. Kieron O'Brien, Mr.Gerry Farrell (Treasurer), Miss Yvonne Bishop, Mrs Jill Serna, Mrs. Helen Cookson, Mr. Peter Bulfield, Mrs. Julia Janiec, assisted by Mrs. Pat Ware.
We have a problem, which can easily be resolved and is best illustrated as follows:
Each week the parish receives a considerable amount of loose cash in the plate at Mass. Excluding Gift Aid donations etc. It averages about £454 per week. This is fine, as it helps cover the cost of running the parish. But, if say, half of this cash went into Gift Aid envelopes, the parish income would increase by £100 per week at no extra cost to parishioners: ie £5,200 per annum. So, if you pay tax, all we need is your name and address for the Inland Revenue. If you have forgotten your envelope, there will be spare envelopes in the benches. Just write your name or number on it.
Finally, many thanks to all parishioners who give so much to the parish. Those who use Gift Aid increased.
Kevin Jamieson
Finance Committee Chairman
