St Richards in the Chichester Festivities

Solemn Vespers

An ecumenical week of witness to our faith came to a close with Solemn Vespers.

The visiting singers were the Chantry Quire, bringing a fine classical sound. The chamber choir was founded in 1999 by the Musical Director, Christopher Larley, and his wife Victoria, who sings alto. He is a prolific composer and is also Director of Music at St Paul's Church. His publisher is also local - Chichester Music Press. The choir members are mainly dedicated amateurs, and some are professional musicians.

The service included Psalm 51: Wash Me Throughly, by Samuel Sebastian Wesley (soloist: Ruth Sands, soprano); Psalm 23: The Lord is my Shepherd, by Howard Goodall (soloist: Lucy Eaton, soprano); Magnificat: setting from the Chantry Canticles composed by Neil Sands, a parishioner and bass singer with the choir.

There was an appreciative congregation, from all our churches in the parish.

Father Thomas thanked the Chantry Quire for aiding us in our worship, the closing celebration of our week in the Chichester Festivities.
