The parishioners who attended the recent open meeting agreed with the proposal from the Project Group, that we should go ahead with the internal re-organisation of St.Richard’s church so that the initial stages of the alterations should be completed for the Jubilee celebrations next year.
Plans of the proposed work are available for perusal and comment from 23rd June . The proposed internal work comprises the following elements:
• A new entrance lobby to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel which will allow a separate entrance to be retained when the “extension aisles” are built on to the church during the next phase of development.
• A new glazed and sound-proofed reconciliation room which will be fully compliant with child-protection regulations.
• The re-positioning of the font to a space in the main body of the church where it will be visible to the congregation and will exemplify current liturgical practice.
• The current Sanctuary area will be reduced to a size which is more proportionate to the rest of the church and will thereby create space for the new baptistery and allow extra seating capacity in the nave of the church. A permanent stone ambo will be placed on the sanctuary for the proclamation of the Word.
• All of the above can be achieved using funds already available to the Parish (mainly from the sale of the chapel at Nutbourne).
If you would like further explanations of the plans, members of the Project Group will be on hand to “walk you round” the proposals after the Masses on 30th June/1st July/ 7th/8th July & 14th/15th July.
