St Richard’s Music Group

The music for Sunday’s 10 o’clock Mass is planned and led by Hazel Johnston, Ruth Keeley, Peter and Tricia Green and Becky Sleven. We get together about every 6 weeks to plan the music for the forthcoming masses.

We provide music for most Sundays of the year but usually take a break for a few weeks during the summer.

We consider our group to be very fortunate in attracting new young people who are doing amazingly well. Their contributions on clarinet, violin, recorder and flutes help to give a full sound, which complements the voices beautifully. Singers range in age from primary school students to people who own a free bus pass!

We aim to introduce new music from time to time to extend our repertoire. As the music is chosen from the Laudate hymnbook, everyone can follow new pieces easily which helps them to pick up the tunes, and St Richard’s congregation join in the singing enthusiastically.

Twice a month we welcome Jerry who plays the organ and keyboard at the 10 o’ clock mass. This enables us to incorporate more traditional music from time to time.

We combine forces with the Bosham music group for Midnight Mass at Christmas, the Easter Triduum and for the outdoor Parish Mass in July. We hold practices for these occasions and additionally from time to time during the year if we feel it necessary.

If anyone is interested in joining our group, you would be most welcome. Please have a word with any of the choir members after the 10 o’clock Mass, or email HazelJohnston@aol.com – we would be so pleased to hear from you.
